Can looking after the health of your staff really increase your profits?

In 2017 a whopping 137 million work days were lost due to staff sickness.

Of these, 22.4% or 30.8 million were as a result of musculoskeletal problems such as back pain, neck pain and pain in the upper limbs. This number does not include reports of migraines which also affects staff illness rates.

There are numerous genuine reasons for such a high number, although in many cases the true causes cannot be confirmed. It is very easy to ring in with vague symptoms such as migraine, backache, headache, neck pain and so on.

What is the true impact of sick days on the workplace?

When a member of staff is absent, it can quickly have a real knock-on-effect with vital work backing up or other team members having to increase their workload to compensate to meet deadlines. Additional pressure on the remaining staff can affect office morale and productivity will drop or worse still the standard of the service offered, or physical products produced, may suffer.

How can companies reduce the level of workplace sick days?

Increasingly businesses of all sizes are starting to see their staff or workforce as one of their most valuable assets. Training and recruitment are both expensive and time-consuming and costs need to be reduced. Companies acknowledge that by keeping recruitment rates down, and creating a good employee relationship, that it will be cost-effective for them. Having a policy of prioritising their welfare also has the added bonus of improving staff retention and will be seen positively.

Pure Bliss Office have worked with several companies locally improving staff wellbeing through office massage and have seen for themselves the positive effects this is having.

What are the benefits to your business of office massage?

As previously mentioned, businesses that are proactive in looking after their staff by offering office massage will see sickness rates fall and long-term staff retention improve.

For the many companies involved in sales-based industries, it can also be offered to both reward staff for reaching key sales targets or completing large projects. Many companies use treats such as pizza days, ice cream or even takeaways to treat or reward their staff but the benefit is soon over.

Massage not only rewards employees, but it can be seen as part of the wider company ethos of staff wellness which all adds to a positive employee / employer relationship.
